چکیده

A semiempirical model of single differential cross sections (SDCS) for ionization of water vapor by fast electrons and bare ions is presented. At low secondary-electron energy, the model is based on an asymptotic expansion of the first Born approximation with coefficients, that are independent of projectile properties, evaluated from experimental photoabsorption and protonimpact ionization data. As the secondary-electron energy increases, the model converges to a binary-encounter approximation. Comparisons with measured differential, total, and dissociative cross sections for ionization of water by fast electrons are used to test the model. For primary electrons with energy greater than about 500 eV, agreement with these data is generally within experimental uncertainty; however, some discrepancies of uncertain origin exist. Calculation of the total cross section for the ionization of H, He, Ne and Ar atoms by bare ions at the high energy range

In the present work, the total cross-section for the ionization of  H, He, Ne and Ar atoms by +He2+ ، H+ ، Li3 ions has been calculated. In these calculations, a binary encounter approximation in the form of a two-body process between projectile ions and atomic electrons at the high energy range has been implemented. In order to enter the nuclear role of the target atom, the atomic electron vel...

Competing processes for electron capture to continuum in relativistic ion-atom collisions

The relative importance of the two mechanisms for the capture of a target electron by a fast, heavy projectile, radiative ionization (RI) and Coulomb capture to continuum (ECC), is studied in the vicinity of the forward peak. For both processes a consistent relativistic description, based on the impulse approximation, is provided. It is found that the differential cross-sections scale with the ...

Doubly Differential Final-State Momentum Distributions of the Ionization Products in Collision of Bare Ions with Hydrogen.

In this paper recoil-ion production cross sections are presented differential in recoil-ion longitudinal momentum and electron emission angle in ionization of atomic and molecular hydrogen by bare ion projectiles. A new formulation for constructing these double differential distributions from the measured electron double differential cross sections is used. A novel feature is the separation of ...

Calculation of depth dose profiles with a track structure code

A prerequisite for applying high-LET radiation like protons or carbon ions to patients is the precise knowledge of absorbed dose, specifically the depth dose distribution. The legal restraints imposed by the authorities requires the Bragg peak position to be reproduced within 0.5 mm and the calculated absorbed dose distribution to agree within 5% (on average) with the measurements. These condit...

Neutron-impact ionization of He

The double ionization of He by either photon impact or bare ion impact are simple examples of the quantal three-body Coulomb breakup problem. For example, the double photoionization of He near threshold produces two slow moving continuum electrons in the Coulomb field of an alpha particle, which is extremely difficult for perturbation theory to handle. On the other hand, various non-perturbativ...
